Super Library Day

3/24/2015 NCA International Student Life

By Laura Eberly (Librarian)

On Wednesday, March 11th, capes, masks, and superheroes galore could be seen around NCA International’s campus as students and teachers celebrated Super Library Day, the grand opening of the school’s new library. Throughout the day, groups of excited students came in to tour the blue and red facility for the first time. The room was bustling with noise as superhero-themed activities took place. Preschoolers and kindergartners successfully navigated a superhero obstacle course while older students created masks and superhero ID cards. In another corner of the room, a towering, wooden superhero created by Mr. Tony Thomas and his art students stood poised and ready for photographs. Students, teachers, and even parents stood in line to get their picture taken with the reading superhero.

Perhaps one of the most exciting moments of the day was the announcement of the winners of the writing contest. During the previous week, students from 1st - 6th grade wrote short stories or comics featuring superheroes and libraries. After much debate, one winner and one honorable mention were selected from each class. Each winner had their story or comic read aloud to visitors and their work was published in a new school book, which is currently on display in the library.

Although Super Library Day is over, the library adventures are just beginning. With big windows, a loft, and plenty of books, NCA’s new library is a welcoming space for students to browse through books, read, and study. Over the next few weeks and the following school year, be on the lookout for bean bag chairs, new furniture, and air conditioning. In the meantime, grab a cape and good book, and head to NCA’s new school library to make reading YOUR superpower!
